Waterfront Dedication to Kevin Greeley

In late August, under a beautiful blue sky with the sun sparkling off the pond, Arlington Boys & Girls Club (the Club) board members, staff and family and friends of the late Kevin Greeley gathered to dedicate the Club’s recently renovated boating waterfront. The funds for the renovations were donated by friends of Kevin Greeley. Kevin loved the Club, frequenting it as a boy and then serving as a longtime member of the Board of Directors. After Kevin’s service on the Board of Directors he continued to be a strong and exuberant advocate for the Board in his capacity as Select Board Member. Kevin lived across the Pond from the Club and always had a strong connection to Spy Pond. The waterfront renovations included beautiful plantings, a new surface and picnic tables.

The waterfront and dock are a huge attraction in the summer and have enhanced the Club’s summer offerings. Now, with a special boating pass and a swim test in the pool, kids can sign out kayaks, Sunfish sailboats, pedal boats and paddle boards. Lifeguards and Club staff are assigned to the waterfront to familiarize kids with each of the watercraft and to teach kids how to use them. The Club’s Special Olympics program utilizes the dock as well.

Spy Pond is so beautiful and such an amazing resource for the Club. The Club’s boating waterfront allows kids access to Spy Pond who otherwise would never have the opportunity to sail, kayak or paddle board right in their backyard. The renovations open up the Club to the Pond, offering a picturesque and functional transition from inside to out and a great space for hanging out waterside. Kevin was a great mentor and example to Club members and staff with his positive attitude and dedication to the Club. Club staff likes to think they see Kevin’s mischievous glint in the shimmer of the sun on the Pond.

Arlington Boys & Girls Club receives grant from the Massachusetts Office of the Attorney General

The Massachusetts Office of the Attorney General recently awarded the Arlington Boys & Girls Club a grant through its Healthy Summer Jobs program. Since Attorney General Maura Healy Healey launched the program more than 800 young people across the state have held summer jobs in their own communities that are focused on promoting nutrition, physical fitness and healthy living. Teens at the Arlington Boys & Girls Club work at the Kids Café lunch site, in the gym and at boating. Due to the generosity of the Office of the Attorney General the Club has been able place teens in jobs that provide them knowledge and skills that will help them make lead healthy lives now and in the future.

Sacco Foundation Award

The John J. Sacco and Edith L. Sacco Charitable Foundation recently awarded $10,000 to the Arlington Boys & Girls Club. The funds will be used to make improvements to the pool.
